Tense with concentration, the jaguar gnaws at its meal, holding it between its front paws. Cocking its head to the side, the animal is fully immersed in the act of consumption, ripping through a long, slender envelope to reveal the letter within. Anna Hyatt Huntington’s paper cutter highlights the importance and frequency of her correspondence. She exchanged letters with her mother more than weekly, and wrote many letters to artists, critics, politicians, poets, and zoologists.  –DF
